DLSHSI College of Medicine shines bright for its back-to-back accomplishments this school year.In the latest ranking of best medical schools in the Philippines for 2017 released by Local Pulse, DLSHSI College of Medicine ranked fourth among the 56 colleges and universities offering medical education with a rating of 81.60%. Schools were ranked based on weighted board exam passing percentage, total number of examinees in a year, top performing examinees, accreditation of the program, and faculty-student ratio. Full ranking details are available in this article.It also topped the September 2017 Physician Licensure Examination. Dr. Jan David C. Monzon and Dr. Robert C. Reña tied in second rank with 90.08% rating.The College of Medicine commits itself to providing quality medical education towards the development of a professional, well-trained, and compassionate Lasallian doctor. CIETI holds General Assembly and Seminar on Blended Learning The Center for Innovative Education and Technology Integration (CIETI) held its General Assembly and Seminar on Blended Learning in the Health Professions Education with the theme “Getting Started with Blended Learning: Breaking New Ground Towards Blended Environment” on October 2, 2017 at DLS Villarosa Convention Hall. To set the tone of the event, Vice Chancellor for Academics Dr. Juanito O. Cabanias presented the Academics Division’s thrust on innovative education and technology integration and CIETI’s role in realizing these goals.Distinguished speakers shared their expertise and experiences in blended learning, technologies for education, and learning management system. Administrators, faculty members, and Academic Support Personnel attended the seminar and completed a survey that shall be used as basis for developing the appropriate technology training.

Tuano presented his scientific paper entitled “Relative Effect of Apparent Amylose Content on the Glycemic Index and In Vitro Starch Digestibility of Selected Philippine Rice Varieties” in the 46th Annual Kapisanang Kimika ng Pilipinas – Southern Tagalog (KKP-ST) Convention on September 6-7, 2017 at Laguna State Polytechnic University, Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
  2. Prof. Nelson V. Arnante, Prof. Felix A. Garcia, Prof. Peggy Anne W. Orbe, Prof. Myra A. Patambang, and Dr. Josephine G. Vigilia attended the seminar on Pedagogy and Preparation of Self-Directed Learning Modules and Implementation of Blended Learning on September 27, 2017 at DLSHSI Romeo P. Ariniego MD Library.
  3. Engr. Rosalyn R. Dariano attended the ISO 9001:2015 Seminar on October 7, 2017 at Philippine Trade Training Center, Pasay City.

College of Medical Laboratory Science

  1. CMLS students presented the study “Anti-angiogenic activity of Ammona muricata (guyabano) leaf extract versus paclitaxel and bevacizumab” during the Philippine Society of Medical Oncology’s (PSMO) Dr. Reuben Guerrero Annual Research Paper Contest at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel on October 13, 2017.

College of Medical Radiation Technology

  1. CMRT Seminar on Self-Directed Learning was held on September 27, 2017, 8:00am to 5:00pm at Health Informatics Laboratory attended by 20 faculty members from different colleges.
  2. Seminar for RT Professionals entitled “Clinical Audit for Diagnostic Radiology: QUAADRIL” was held on October 14, 2017, 8:00am to 5:00pm at DLS Villarosa Convention Hall. Participants were Radiologic Technologists in Region IV-A. Speakers were Prof. Lowela M. Alindayu, Prof. Mezie Laurence Ortiz, and Dr. Susan A. Olavidez.
  3. 2nd RT National Student Congress with the theme “RT Education in Response to ASEAN Integration” held on October 16, 2017, 8:00am to 5:00pm at SMX Convention Center, SM MOA, Pasay City attended by CMRT Student Council Officers. Dr. Susan A. Olavidez was invited as speaker.

College of Nursing

  1. The Philippine Association for Graduate Education 50th Annual Convention with the theme “Research Collaboration Among ASEAN Graduate Schools: Prospects & Challenges” was held on September 19-22, 2017 at Manila Hotel and University of Santo Tomas. Attendees were Dr. Alely S. Reyes, Dr. Rommel L. Salazar, Dr. Maria Bernadette R. Daplas, Dr. Daisy H. Alberto, and Dr. Restituta C. Tan.
  2. Dr. Restituta C. Tan and Prof. Bonifacia E. Leyran attended the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines National Convention with the theme “COMMUNIO: Building and Sustaining Ecclesial Communities for Life” at SMX Convention Center, Lanang, Davao City on September 27-29, 2017.
  3. The Association of Deans of Philippine Colleges of Nursing held a seminar ”Collaboration of Nursing Education, Research and Practice Towards Quality Healthcare” at Manila Hotel on October 5-6, 2017. Attendees were Dr. Restituta C. Tan, Dr. Alely S. Reyes, Dr. Daisy H. Alberto, Prof. Julieta M. Damian, Prof. Lydia S. Alico, Prof. Mary Rose J. Salazar, and Dr. Naomi M. de Aro.
  4. The CN Faculty workshop on OBE Curriculum revision based on CHED Memo Order No. 15, Series of 2017 was held on October 16-17, 2017at Poveda House of Prayer, Tagaytay City.
  5. The Philippine Nurses’ Association jointly held its National Annual Convention, 95th Foundation Anniversary, and 60th Nurses’ Week Celebration with the theme “Nurses at the Forefront Transforming Healthcare for the Filipinos and the World” in Legazpi, Albay on October 17-19, 2017. Attendees were Dr. Rommel L. Salazar, Dr. Maria Bernadette R. Daplas, and Prof. Leon L. Fojas.
  6. Dr. Rommel L. Salazar was appointed as Member, Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Technical Working Committee on Capacity Building (Luzon Cluster Representative) effective June 2017 – May 2019 based on PCHRD Special Order No. 376, Series of 2017, Sept. 12, 2017 (S.O.appointment received 2 October, 2017).

College of Pharmacy

  1. CP and PPhA Cavite Chapter outreach program on September 23, 2017 in celebration of World Pharmacists Day entitled “PHARMALASAKIT: Sagip Kabataan” at Gawad Kaling Piela was a success with over 80 children and 30 adults participating in the feeding program. It was also highlighted by other activities like teaching the kids handwashing and tooth brushing and OTC advising for moms. 50 kids also enjoyed free haircuts.
  2. CP, DLSHSI Mission and Linkages, and DLSP accompanied the students from Oakhill College, Australia to Gawad Kalinga, Piela on September 30, 2017 for GK Build which included the tiling and painting of the Sibol classroom.

College of Rehabilitation Sciences

  1. Dr. Ramona Luisa Pablo-Santos was invited as a resource person to pilot test the Manual on Sexuality and Responsible Parenthood for Person with Disability on September 26-28, 2017 in Dagupan City.
