DLSHSI changes its name to De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute

DLSHSI changes its name to De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences InstituteGuided by the positioning statement and brand awareness campaign of the Institute, the De La Salle Health Sciences Institute continues to improve itself and adapt to the changing and developing times. This involves the need to change the name of the Institute from De La Salle Health Sciences Institute to De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute to be impactful and consistent to the programs and services it offers so as to establish a stronger recall to the community. The inclusion of the term Medical, as practiced by other health sciences institutions in the Philippines and abroad, is part and parcel of our progressive plan to introduce the field of Medicine and all allied health and sciences courses to the nation and to the world tinged with the Lasallian brand and character of education and values of faith, zeal for service, communion in mission and reverence for life. The change of name was approved by the Board of Trustees during its meeting on December 14, 2017.

Medicine student speaks during the national indigenous peoples education meetMr. Jeoffrey Mambucon, 2nd Year Doctor of Medicine student, spoke before a group of tribal elders (70%), Regional Directors, Schools Superintendent of Region X, and National Government Officials (30%) at Waterfront Hotel, Davao on January 10, 2018 during the 2017Pambansang Pagtitipon para sa Katutubong Edukasyon.Mr. Mambucon belongs to an indigenous group, the first nurse in his tribe, and hopefully, the first doctor. He shared his experiences as an indigenous person and how he got the chance to study at DLSHSI through the Br. President Scholarship Grant. Of all the medical schools in the Philippines, only DLSHSI gave him the opportunity to study for free through the generosity of his sponsors, Drs. Rosben and Caroll Gutierrez from San Diego, CA and Dr. Romeo Ariniego. This is part of the mission of DLSHSI in providing access to Lasallian health sciences education and one of the major key strategies of the Academics Division.
