John 11:19-27

Date posted: July 29, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: John 11:19-27
Many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them about their brother [Lazarus, who had died]. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him; but Mary sat at home. Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise.” Martha said to him, “I know he will rise, in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” She said to him, “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world.”

Reflection
It is a cliché to say that we don’t need a miracle in order to believe that there is a God because a man who has strong faith in God finds him in his creatures. The Gospel today does not just focus on the miracle that Christ would perform to Lazarus but also on what is going to happen if a man believes that Christ is the resurrection and the life. Eternal life is the reward if we believe in Christ. This is one reason why we believe that the saints are still living with Christ in heaven since they are the epitomes of perfect faith in Him. And so, whenever we pray through the intercession of the saints we strongly believe that we are not praying together with the dead people but with the ones who merited eternal life in heaven.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
“The person of Jesus Christ who gave his life in loving service to others reveals what it means to be fully human and fully alive.” (p. 17) This quotation from the Lasallian Guiding Principles tells us how important is our mission as Lasallians. The name Lasallian implies a noble mission, that is, to follow the mission of our holy Founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle, who gave up his life in loving service to others. This exhorts us that in everything that we do we must always consider the dignity of the people involved in our decisions. Christ died to uphold our dignity. Our holy Founder gave up everything just to follow the footstep of Christ by trying to continue his mission. And so, we are also expected even in our own little way to make other people experience the same mission inside and outside of our institution.

One Commitment Prayer
Lord Jesus, You love us all and make us your brothers and sisters. You call us to follow you. You invite us to announce the Good News. Lord, grant us the courage to live our commitment. Teach us to go beyond our borders. Teach us to discover you in the lowliest. Teach us to see with the eyes of faith. Teach us to share our mission with all Lasallians throughout the whole world. We make this prayer through the intercession of Mary, Queen and Mother of the Christian Schools, and through the intercession of St. John Baptist de la Salle, patron of teachers. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
