John 13:21-27

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

John 13:21-27

Reclining at table with his disciples, Jesus was deeply troubled and testified, «Amen, amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.» The disciples looked at one another, at a loss as to whom he meant. One of his disciples, the one whom Jesus loved, was reclining at Jesus’ side. So Simon Peter nodded to him to find out whom he meant. He leaned back against Jesus’ chest and said to him, “Master, who is it?” Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I hand the morsel after I have dipped it.” So he dipped the morsel and (took it and) handed it to Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot. After he took the morsel, Satan entered him. So Jesus said to him, “What you are going to do, do quickly.”

Reflection

The Gospel reveals how Jesus embraces the pain of betrayal, rejection, and denial of his dear friends. It is more painful to be betrayed and denied by a friend. What Jesus said to Peter might be an invitation for us all, “Will you lay down your life for me?” When we are tired and tempted, always pray and remember that God will never leave us because He is our refuge. The Lord is will always with us even though we reject Him. The Lord will be always with us as He promised, because He is Our Brother and Friend. How strong is our faith in times of temptations and trials? Are we going to choose material things and riches in exchange for the salvation that the Lord offers?

Lasallian Guiding Principle

The LGP stated that, “Attention to excellence and quality in one’s work is a manifestation of zeal for service. One tries to be and do the best one can in order to be of greater service to God and to contribute to the common good.” (FPLS.14) We are now facing a very serious problem because of the COVID-19. As Lasallians, we should not be discouraged, but hold on to our faith and mission. Our doctors, nurses, health workers, and volunteers are serving and fulfilling their oaths, duties, and missions. They are risking their health/lives for the sake of all the patients infected by COVID-19. We have to support and pray for them in this mission. As Lasallians, do we have the courage, strength, and trust to respond to the mission that Christ entrusted to us?

Oratio Imperata on the Threat of the COVID-19 (CBCP)

God our Father, we come to You in our need to ask Your protection against the COVID-19 that has disturbed us and claimed many lives. We pray that You guide the people tasked to find cure for this disease and to stem its transmission. Protect the medical experts and healthcare personnel that they may minister to the sick with competence and compassion. We pray for those afflicted. May they be restored to health soon. Protect those who care for them. Grant eternal rest to those who have died. Give us grace in this trying time to work for the good of all and to help those in need. We implore You to stop the spread of this virus and to save us from our fears. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen. Our Lady of the Star, pray for us. St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us. St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.

Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
