John 2:1-12

Date posted: January 20, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: John 2:1-12
On the third day there was a marriage at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; Jesus also was invited to the marriage, with his disciples. When the wine failed, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “O woman, what have you to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Now six stone jars were standing there, for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to them, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. He said to them, “Now draw some out, and take it to the steward of the feast.” So they took it. When the steward of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward of the feast called the bridegroom and said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first; and when men have drunk freely, then the poor wine; but you have kept the good wine until now.” This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed in him. After this he went down to Capernaum, with his mother and his brothers and his disciples; and there they stayed for a few days.

Reflection
In the Gospel of John, Jesus changed the water into wine at the wedding at Cana in Galilee. Applying it in real life, the story taught us three things: first, is to believe that nothing is impossible with God such as when Jesus turned the water into wine. Second is that we should follow all the command of Jesus like what His disciples did when His mother asked the disciples to follow what He will command. Lastly, ‘ask and we will receive’. Ask through prayers, have faith, follow His commands and you will receive abundant blessings, more than enough that you have asked for. Things may look impossible, but with God everything is possible. Jesus will always make a way to provide for us His sons and daughters.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…the communion in mission is a spirit that allows one to respect and affirm the contribution of others to the fulfillment of the mission…” Every person is made unique with his own set of skills and talents, and with these differences a stronger union is brought forth when we act with a humble and obedient heart. In the Gospel, Mary believed Jesus’s capabilities and respected whatever His decision may be. We are reminded that, in the fulfillment of the mission, we must appreciate the roles of others as they are also called upon by God. With a humble and obedient heart, we are able to commune effectively – not according to what we aspire to happen, but according to His will.

Prayer
Dear God, thank you for reminding us to believe that Your Son Jesus Christ can make miracles happen even in the darkest of times. We will promise to follow your orders and believe in what you say, so please continue on guiding us into the path that You have made for us. In You, everything is possible. This we pray, in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
