John 4: 28-34

Date posted: March 15, 2020

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

John 4: 28-34

The woman said to him, “I know that the Messiah is coming, the one called the Christ; when he comes, he
will tell us everything.” Jesus said to her, “I am he, the one speaking with you.” At that moment his disciples
returned, and were amazed that he was talking with a woman, but still no one said, “What are you looking
for?” or “Why are you talking with her?” The woman left her water jar and went into the town and said to the
people, “Come see a man who told me everything I have done. Could he possibly be the Christ?” They
went out of the town and came to him. Meanwhile, the disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat.” But he said to
them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.” So the disciples said to one another, “Could someone
have brought him something to eat?” Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of the one who sent me
and to finish his work.

Reflection
The gospel for today is talks about the interaction of the Samaritan woman with Jesus. She was skeptical at
first but after identifying a secret she has, she began to believe he is a prophet. Jesus said to let anyone
who is thirsty and wants a drink to come to him. It can be interpreted as Jesus welcoming anyone who will
be open to him and saving them if they believed in him, in a way it tells us that we should also do the same.
In this Lenten season, what have we sacrificed so far to help others in need?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “Zeal for service is a whole-hearted giving of oneself to the service of others, in gratuity and
generosity, in creativity and fortitude, in compassion and commitment.” As Jesus is open to those who are
in need of him we should do the same. St. John Baptist De La Salle never gave up in teaching and his faith
in God even though it was tested time and time again just like the Samaritan woman. As Lasallians, the
challenge for us is to never lose faith and our zeal for service especially in time of trials and hardships.

Prayer for the Year of Ecumenism, Inter-Religious Dialogue and Indigenous Peoples
Almighty, Ever-living God, the most Merciful and Compassionate,
we thank You for Creation and the life You have given us.
Together, we people of diverse religions,
spiritual expressions and indigenous traditions who invoke You by different names,
humbly pray that You give us the opportunity to encounter each other through Dialogue,
to reach mutual respect and reciprocal acceptance of each other,
and to break down the walls of division that stand
at the center of most misunderstandings and conflicts.
Make us instruments of Your Light, Love and Peace.

Guide us to walk always in Your Path and be a source of hope to everyone
so that we may discover Your Divine Presence in each other.
Show us the way to Harmony and Unity to reach the fullness of human fraternity.
Give us the wisdom to discern the Truth and to freely choose what is right and just
to make this world a better place to live in.
Together, we ask You for the wisdom and the courage
to fulfil Your Will that all may be ONE.

We make this prayer through the intercession of Mary
Queen and Mother of the Christian Schools, and through
the intercession of Saint John Baptist de la Salle, patron of teachers. Amen.

Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
