John 5:1-16

Date posted: March 24, 2020

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

John 5:1-16
One man was there, who had been ill for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him and knew that he had been
lying there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?” The sick man answered him, “Sir, I
have no man to put me into the pool when the water is troubled, and while I am going another steps down
before me.” Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your pallet, and walk.”.

Reflection
The highlight of this gospel is the answer of a man who was ill for a long time. He was convinced that even
he wants to be healed, he knows that there would be many who will try to be the first. But Jesus proved that
the last will be the first in the Kingdom of God. For many times in our lives, Jesus is asking us if we want to
be healed and He is always waiting for our answer. Is there anything holding us back from God’s healing?
Why?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
The LGP states that, “Zeal for service is a whole-hearted giving of oneself to the service of others, in gratuity
and generosity, in creativity and fortitude, in compassion and commitment.” As Lasallians, we are called,
especially during this time of crisis to help others. Let us think of even simple ways on how we can extend
our help to others especially those who are poor and forgotten. May we be inspired by the selfless love of
our founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle, in extending our services especially in this time of crisis as he did
to the people of Rheims during his time.

Oratio Imperata on the Threat of the COVID-19 (CBCP)
God our Father,
we come to You in our need to ask Your protection
against the COVID-19 that has disturbed us
and claimed many lives.
We pray that You guide the people tasked to find cure
for this disease and to stem its transmission.
Protect the medical experts and healthcare personnel
that they may minister to the sick with competence and compassion.
We pray for those afflicted. May they be restored to health soon.
Protect those who care for them. Grant eternal rest to those who have died.
Give us grace in this trying time to work for the good of all and to help those in need.
We implore You to stop the spread of this virus and to save us from our fears.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son
who lives and reigns with You,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us!
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us!
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us!
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
