John 7:40-53

Date posted: March 28, 2020

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

John 7:40-53
When they heard these words, some of the people said, “This is really the prophet.” Others said, “This is
the Christ.” But some said, “Is the Christ to come from Galilee? Has not the scripture said that the Christ is
descended from David, and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David was?” So there was a division
among the people over him. Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him. The officers
then went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, “Why did you not bring him?” The
officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this man!”

Reflection
The gospel illustrates Jesus’ passion and death in the fulfillment of His mission. This encourages us to stop
and reflect on everything that we do. We must learn not to become judgmental of others’ status, race, beliefs
and culture. Everyone can be great in the eyes of God. How do we discern the greatness or goodness of
other people?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
The LGP states that, “Zeal for service is a whole-hearted giving of oneself to the service of others, in gratuity
and generosity, in creativity and fortitude, in compassion and commitment.” St. John Baptist de La Salle
embraces all the challenges and opportunities given to him despite of his influential status in their society.
He opens himself, even with fears and doubts, to God’s will and accept them all as God’s calling in his life.
As Lasallian students, we must monitor our thoughts and judgments. May we follow our founder’s openness
and willingness to accept God’s mission in our life.

Oratio Imperata on the Threat of the COVID-19 (CBCP)
God our Father,
we come to You in our need to ask Your protection
against the COVID-19 that has disturbed us
and claimed many lives.
We pray that You guide the people tasked to find cure
for this disease and to stem its transmission.
Protect the medical experts and healthcare personnel
that they may minister to the sick with competence and compassion.
We pray for those afflicted. May they be restored to health soon.
Protect those who care for them. Grant eternal rest to those who have died.
Give us grace in this trying time to work for the good of all and to help those in need.
We implore You to stop the spread of this virus and to save us from our fears.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son
who lives and reigns with You,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us!
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us!
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us!
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
