John 9,1-41

Date posted: March 22, 2020

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

John 9,1-41
As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or
his parents, that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this
happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of
him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the
world.” After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s
eyes. “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and
washed, and came home seeing. His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, “Isn’t
this the same man who used to sit and beg?” Some claimed that he was. Others said, “No, he only looks
like him.” But he himself insisted, “I am the man.” “How then were your eyes opened?” they asked. He
replied, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and
wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.”

Reflection
The gospel illustrates one of the miracles of Jesus, that is, healing a born blind man. Jesus shows His power
by healing the person who was born blind. The faith of the blind person helped himself when he followed
what Jesus instructed him to do. Some people believed in Jesus’ power of healing but the rest questioned
this miracle of Jesus. In these trying times, how can we participate in Jesus’ mission of healing the world?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
The LGP states that, “Zeal for service is a whole-hearted giving of oneself to the service of others, in gratuity
and generosity, in creativity and fortitude, in compassion and commitment.” SJBDLS offered everything he
had to help those people who were hungry and illiterate in response to the call of Jesus at that time. We,
like him, Lasallian are expected to respond to the call of mission specially in this time of crisis. The LGP
reminds us that we need to renew our commitment to our mission as a true Lasallian.

Oratio Imperata on the Threat of the COVID-19 (CBCP)
God our Father,
we come to You in our need to ask Your protection
against the COVID-19 that has disturbed us
and claimed many lives.
We pray that You guide the people tasked to find cure
for this disease and to stem its transmission.
Protect the medical experts and healthcare personnel
that they may minister to the sick with competence and compassion.
We pray for those afflicted. May they be restored to health soon.
Protect those who care for them. Grant eternal rest to those who have died.
Give us grace in this trying time to work for the good of all and to help those in need.
We implore You to stop the spread of this virus and to save us from our fears.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son
who lives and reigns with You,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us!
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
