Luke 10, 17-24

Date posted: October 6, 2018

Gospel: Luke 10, 17-24
The seventy-two disciples returned rejoicing and said to Jesus, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us because of your name.” Jesus said, “I have observed Satan fall like lightning from the sky. Behold, I have given you the power ‘to tread upon serpents’ and scorpions and upon the full force of the enemy and nothing will harm you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” At that very moment he rejoiced (in) the holy Spirit and said, ‘I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.’ Turning to the disciples in private he said, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I say to you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.”

Reflection
Having power is very tempting and seductive, according to this gospel. Jesus teaches us not to rejoice just because we have traits and skills that some people do not have. Instead, we must rejoice because of God’s goodness to us. Jesus Christ teaches us to keep a strong faith and rejoice in God alone. Why are we rejoicing?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows one to judge and evaluate things in the light of the gospel.” It means that every Lasallian is called to use the eyes of faith when evaluating things. When we don’t see goodness, may we find that beacon of light at the end of the tunnel. We are thankful because we have the capacity to reflect before, during and after our activities in life.

Prayer
Lord, we are thankful that You have created us, and gave us a space to experience how to live in this world that You have created. We are blessed that we have You, You are our guide in this long journey. Lord, when we feel uncomfortable, please comfort us, and guide us to help other people and fight challenges that we may encounter in the future. This we ask through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lasallian Prayer for Peace
We pray to you, O Lord,
God of life and God of those who hope!
Listen to our prayer for the whole world:
For peace among all peoples,
For prosperity in all lands.
We pray to you that evil may be overcome
And that all wars may end.
We pray to You especially for the members
Of our Lasallian Family,
Who suffer from war, injustice and intolerance,
And for children and young people who are poor ad neglected.
We pray too, God, for peace in our lives;
In our towns, in our schools,
In our families and in our own hearts.
We pray for a peace that the world cannot give us.
We pray for a peace that will make us whole
And transform us into ambassadors of justice for Your sake.
Lord, give us Your peace! Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de la Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
