Luke 10:1-12

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Luke 10:1-12
“After this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to come. And he said to them,”The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. Carry no purse, no bag, and no sandals; and salute no one on the road. Whatever house you enter, first say, `Peace be to this house!’ And if a son of peace is there, your peace shall rest upon him; but if not, it shall return to you. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages; do not go from house to house. Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you; heal the sick in it and say to them, `The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, `Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off against you; nevertheless know this that the kingdom of God has come near.’ I tell you, it shall be more tolerable on that day for Sodom than for that town.”

Reflection
What kind of harvest does the Lord want us to reap today for his kingdom? When Jesus commissioned seventy of his disciples to go on mission, he gave them a vision of a vast field that is ready to be harvested for the kingdom of God. Jesus frequently used the image of a harvest to convey the coming of God’s reign on earth. The harvest is the fruition of much labor and growth – beginning with the sowing of seeds, then growth to maturity, and finally the reaping of fruit for the harvest. The gospel tells me to be mature in my ways. May we always know God’s guiding hand and the help of His angels in protecting us from all that is evil. May He give us strength of will and courage to refuse what is evil and to choose what is good as we grow and as we hope for a good harvest.

LGP states that, “…the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows one to judge and evaluate things in the light of the gospel.” It is a disposition of the mind and heart that allows believers to interpret, judge and evaluate reality in the light of the Gospel. It moves and motivates them to contribute actively to the fulfilment of God’s saving plan that enables them to take necessary risks and act with boldness in accomplishing what is demanded by each situation, placing their trust in God’s providence to guide, sustain and make fruitful their efforts.

Lord, grant us your strength for a life full of meaning Fill us with your grace so that we will live the values of the gospel our inner life will grow. And that we will be credible witnesses Together with the entire Lasallian Family In the midst of our world.
