Luke 11, 42-46

Gospel: Luke 11, 42-46
The Lord said: “Woe to you Pharisees! You pay tithes of mint and of rue and of every garden herb, but you pay no attention to judgment and to love for God. These you should have done, without overlooking the others. Woe to you Pharisees! You love the seat of honor in synagogues and greetings in marketplaces. Woe to you! You are like unseen graves over which people unknowingly walk.” Then one of the scholars of the law said to him in reply, “Teacher, by saying this you are insulting us too.” And he said, “Woe also to you scholars of the law! You impose on people burdens hard to carry, but you yourselves do not lift one finger to touch them.”

Reflection
This gospel shows how Pharisees believe only on themselves and they still practice hypocrisy instead of practicing love, mercy and compassion. Little did they know that God wants them to be fair to other people and to love God. The Pharisees believe that they are the holy ones. They also claim that they should be given respect by the other people that’s why they want to have best seats in the synagogue. Pharisees are the expert in the law wherein they implement laws, but they themselves don’t practice what they preach. How much of what we preach end up in vain or are not practiced?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that “the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows one to trust in God loving presence and provident when acting God’s will.” This means that we should always love God and trust Him with all our heart. Our life is a gift from God that shouldn’t be taken for granted, we should cherish it, and always seek guidance from the Lord. Seeking guidance is always done in our prayer moments. Let’s immerse ourselves in His presence to be able to do His will.

Prayer
Lord, help us to be in touch with our own reality that we may know how to extend compassion rather than following our instinct and to avoid hypocrisy and all forms of abuse of authority. Also, give us the grace not only to be teachers but also witness who live what we teach. It is hard to walk the talk but Lord in Your guidance and inspiration it is possible. Have mercy on us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Lasallian Prayer for Peace
We pray to you, O Lord,
God of life and God of those who hope!
Listen to our prayer for the whole world:
For peace among all peoples,
For prosperity in all lands.
We pray to you that evil may be overcome
And that all wars may end.
We pray to You especially for the members
Of our Lasallian Family,
Who suffer from war, injustice and intolerance,
And for children and young people who are poor ad neglected.
We pray too, God, for peace in our lives;
In our towns, in our schools,
In our families and in our own hearts.
We pray for a peace that the world cannot give us.
We pray for a peace that will make us whole
And transform us into ambassadors of justice for Your sake.
Lord, give us Your peace! Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de la Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
