Luke 11:14-23

Date posted: March 28, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Luke 11:14-23
Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute, and when the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke and the crowds were amazed. Some of them said, “By the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons, he drives out demons.” Others, to test him, asked him for a sign from heaven. But he knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste and house will fall against house. And if Satan is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that it is by Beelzebul that I drive out demons. If I, then, drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your people drive them out? Therefore they will be your judges. But if it is by the finger of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. When a strong man fully armed guards his palace, his possessions are safe. But when one stronger than he attacks and overcomes him, he takes away the armor on whom he relied and distributes the spoils. Whoever is not with me I against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.”

Reflection:
Today’s gospel is another manifestation of God’s manifold care for those afflicted with any form of infirmities be it even being possessed with a demon. And while he may be ridiculed for his act and even question of the source of power he utilized, Jesus is resolved to help the afflicted person. Perhaps this is what the gospel inviting us to reflect, that our determination to do good and help those who are in need despite the many hindrances that block our way. Jesus wants us to have a firm resolution to follow his ways even to the point of being ridiculed for the good works we are doing, like teaching for free among unruly or youth in conflict with the law, extending our medical services for free to those in need and sharing our services beyond our duty hours. Are we then ready to resolve to live our zeal for service in the circumstances mentioned above?

Lasallian Guiding Principle:
LGP states that, Zeal for service is a whole hearted giving of oneself to the service of others, in gratuity and generosity, in creativity and fortitude, in compassion and commitment. In fact, in Lasallian perspective “gratuity and generosity” are traits expressed in the willingness to “go the extra mile,” to extend our services beyond what is required without any regard for remuneration. How often do we resolve to live this Lasallian commitment of zeal for service? And like Jesus in the gospel, are we determined to do good and carry out our tasks beyond what is required from us?

Prayer for the Tercentenary of the Founder’s passing to Eternal Life (adapted)
God, our Father and Mother, You love us with endless mercy. You call us to be your sons and daughters.Give us a generous heart. A heart of flesh that “burns within us.” A heart always willing to love. A compassionate heart for those who suffer. A heart where there is a place for all Lasallians around the world. Lord Jesus, You call us to follow you. Give us the courage to live our commitment. Teach us to go beyond our borders. Teach us to discover you in the lowliest. Teach us to look with the eyes of faith. Teach us to share our mission with all Lasallians of the whole world. Holy Spirit, You call us to live with joy. Fill us with your grace to live the values of the Gospel. Fill us with your grace to be active members in your Church. Fill us with your grace so that we may be credible witnesses, together with the entire Lasallian Family, in the midst of our world. Together and by association, we wish to renew our Lasallian commitment, and, in an attitude of thanksgiving, celebrate these 300 years of life. We ask this through Mary’s intercession, Queen and Mother of the Christian Schools. And through the intercession of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, Universal Patron of Christian Educators. Amen.

Let us pray with one Lasallian Heart whose Commitment is to nurture Life. Now, in a very special way, we pray for the complete healing of our Brother Superior General, Br. Bob Schieler FSC.
We entrust Him to Your power. Touch him oh Divine Physician with Your healing hands. This we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Then say 1 Our Father, 3 Hail Mary and 1 Glory Be.

Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
