Luke 12,1-7

Date posted: October 19, 2018

Gospel: Luke 12,1-7
At that time: So many people were crowding together that they were trampling one another underfoot. He began to speak, first to his disciples, “Beware of the leaven–that is, the hypocrisy–of the Pharisees. There is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have said in the darkness will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed on the housetops. I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body but after that can do no more. I shall show you whom to fear. Be afraid of the one who after killing has the power to cast into Gehenna; yes, I tell you, be afraid of that one. Are not five sparrows sold for two small coins? Yet not one of them has escaped the notice of God. Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.”

Reflection
Today’s Gospel Jesus tells his disciples that everything that is concealed will be revealed. He also tells them that every secret has its own revelation. This is true because I believe that there are many secrets that someday will be revealed. But Jesus shifts his focus and told his disciples that there is no need to fear because God is always watching them. Jesus uses image of the five sparrows. They simply were a commodity to be bough. Jesus tells his listeners that not one of the sparrows escapes God’s attention. Today, Jesus reminds us that we don’t need to worry and everyone of us is deeply significant to God. May we pray for the grace to trust and believe that God loves us more than we can ever imagine. How deep is your faith?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows one to trust in God’s loving presence and providence when acting God’s will.” I love this part since I regard God as my provider. There are so many people in the world, even including me, who are too afraid if they have no food, no home, no work, etc. Sometimes, we forget that God is always here to help us. But this faith must also work to realize God’s blessing.

Prayer
Lord, our help and guide, help us to make Your love the foundation of our lives. Always guide us in every decision and action we will take and make. Thank you for taking sight of every action that I’ve done and saving me from harm. Praise You who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Lasallian Prayer for Peace
We pray to you, O Lord,
God of life and God of those who hope!
Listen to our prayer for the whole world:
For peace among all peoples,
For prosperity in all lands.
We pray to you that evil may be overcome
And that all wars may end.
We pray to You especially for the members
Of our Lasallian Family,
Who suffer from war, injustice and intolerance,
And for children and young people who are poor ad neglected.
We pray too, God, for peace in our lives;
In our towns, in our schools,
In our families and in our own hearts.
We pray for a peace that the world cannot give us.
We pray for a peace that will make us whole
And transform us into ambassadors of justice for Your sake.
Lord, give us Your peace! Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de la Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
