Luke 1:39-56

Date posted: August 15, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Luke 1:39-56
In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a city of Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.” And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden. For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is on those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm, he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts, he has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted those of low degree; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his posterity for ever." And Mary remained with her about three months, and returned to her home.

Reflection
Do we believe that God fulfills His promise? There are times that we become impatient and so we easily give up. Our faith becomes weak because of trials and challenges in life. We fail to see the bright side of life’s shadows. The Gospel challenges us to be like Mary who put her full trust in God’s promise of salvation through her Son Jesus. She willingly gave her “yes” for she believes that God never fails. May our faith increase in the hope of the joys of heaven.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
As stated in the LGP, The spirit of faith allows one to search God’s will in order to carry out his saving plan.
As a man of faith and prayer, St. John Baptist De La Salle was able to discern God’s will for him. He carried God’s salvation to the children of France through human and Christian education. Like Mary, he said “yes” to God’s will and he succeeded. After 300 years lasallians continue our founder’s mission. May our faith and loving concern for the last, the lost, and the least grow and bear much fruit.

One Commitment Prayer
Lord Jesus, You love us all and make us your brothers and sisters. You call us to follow you. You invite us to announce the Good News. Lord, grant us the courage to live our commitment. Teach us to go beyond our borders. Teach us to discover you in the lowliest. Teach us to see with the eyes of faith. Teach us to share our mission with all Lasallians throughout the whole world. We make this prayer through the intercession of Mary, Queen and Mother of the Christian Schools, and through the intercession of St. John Baptist de la Salle, patron of teachers. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
