Luke 14:12-14

Date posted: November 4, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Luke 14:12-14
Then he said to the host who invited him, “When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back and you have repayment. Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

Reflection
The Gospel for this day invites us to go out of our comfort zone and welcome the least among us. Poor communities are everywhere. Poor may not directly refer to lack of financial capacity but it can also relate to physical, emotional or spiritual deficiency. As Lasallians, are we willing to step out of our comfort zones and extend our services to them?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
As stated in the Lasallian Guiding Principles, “…the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows one to unite one’s actions to the ongoing saving action of God in the world.” One way of doing this is to do everything with love and expect nothing in return. Just like St. John Baptist De La Salle, he dedicated himself to train teachers that would impart knowledge and Christian values to children without asking for any payment.

One Life Prayer
Holy Spirit
You love us and offer us the gift of association.
You call us to live with joy
You invite us to be people with a creative inner life
Lord, grant us your strength for a life full of meaning
Fill us with your grace so that we will live the values of the gospel.
Our inner life will grow
And that we will be credible witnesses
Together with the entire Lasallian Family
In the midst of our world.
We make this prayer through the intercession of Mary
Queen and Mother of the Christian Schools, and through
the intercession of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, patron of teachers. Amen.

Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de La salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
