Luke 15, 1-10

Date posted: November 8, 2018

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Luke 15, 1-10
Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them.
Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Reflection
No one would ever do that! Why would you let the 99 sheep be lost in the middle of nowhere and find the lost sheep? Why would you throw a party after only founding the one coin? Isn’t it insane? It is! Except Jesus. Jesus does this. Jesus leaves the 99 to search for the lost. Jesus sweeps the house and then throws a party when the lost are found. It’s totally and thoroughly insane. And, that’s why the Gospel it is such Good News. When a soul is lost, the soul is missed, longed after, and not only worth the search party, but worth the celebration-party when the soul is brought back into the fold. The story was told to a group of religious people who fancied themselves as the 99 sheep or the 9 coins that were never lost. These are the people who would never be impressed of God’s work who spends most of His time going after the sinners, when God should be spending His time with the well-behaved ones who seemingly never left his side. But our God is the God of the lost, and the God who celebrates when the lost are found. Jesus is the saviour who welcomes sinners and eats with them. This is something for us to celebrate. Something for us to be excited about.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “The spirit of faith flows from a relationship of communion with the Triune God who wills to save all people by drawing them into a life-giving communion with Him.” We want to focus on the point that He wants to save us all in drawing closer to Him. Yes, we are easily get distracted by the things that surrounding us and sometimes due to our distractions in life, we got lost along the way in being closer to Him. It also said in the LGP that, “the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows one to unite one’s actions to the ongoing saving action of God in the world.” In the first place, we all know that He wanted us to be saved to  the point that He had died for us. We are here right now because of Him. That’s why we need to give back to Him even in just our simple ways, and I think that one of many simple ways is to love our neighbours as much as we love ourselves. As Lasallians, no matter what hardships or challenges we are facing right now, we should always go back to Him. Because in Him, we will be guided and formed of who we truly are as His sons/daughters.

Prayer
Lord, help us to feel Your presence in times that we’re lost. Help us to find our way back to You, and in You alone. Lord, I surrender everything to you. I pray to find my purpose, to do something, to make something happen, all with my own strength and I know that it will all be possible in the glory of Your Name. Help me, O Lord, to discern what what is good and what is right for all living. When we are distracted, let our hearts rest in Yours. All for the Glory of Your Name, forever and ever. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
