Luke 16, 9-15

Date posted: November 10, 2018

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Luke 16, 9-15
Jesus said to his disciples: "I tell you, make friends for yourselves with dishonest wealth, so that when it fails, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.
The person who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthy in great ones; and the person who is dishonest in very small matters is also dishonest in great ones.
If, therefore, you are not trustworthy with dishonest wealth, who will trust you with true wealth?
If you are not trustworthy with what belongs to another, who will give you what is yours?
No servant can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon."
The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all these things and sneered at him.
And he said to them, "You justify yourselves in the sight of others, but God knows your hearts; for what is of human esteem is an abomination in the sight of God.”

Reflection
The gospel tells us that the each and every act that a person does have their respective equivalent no matter how small or big, it is also said that a person who will can do little things for you can surely go the extra mile; but a person who is not true to even his small actions is surely the same with big things. And if we assess ourselves and identify to the two types of people, and falls in the latter type who cannot be trusted even in small things, what would happen to us? In this world, we can be ruled by a lot of things but there are only two choices: God and material possessions. It’s always so easy to get preoccupied with other material things that we sometimes forget that God, our supreme love, is the ultimate meaning of our lives. Jesus claims that our hearts must be filled with God’s love, or else we will be filled with the love for something else (which is not right because the only love we actually need is His). It’s time to reflect on our actions and think carefully if we actually put God first because only then will we really find peace and love. The gospel teaches us that we just shouldn’t be part time Christians, but we should work as His servants, we should be faithful and always ready to serve, not just Him but also our brothers and sisters.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…personal liberation is freedom from human ignorance, immaturity and psychological impediments for mature self-possession, self-commitment and self-giving.” This means that as sons and daughters of the Lord, we should be aware of what kind of decisions we make in our lives in order to be a ‘mature’ and spiritually awakened being that is not easily affected by the earthly temptations. We should always choose to do the things that glorify God and what pleases us best within the limits of godly wisdom because serving Him and others is the most important thing of all. As Lasallians, we should set an example to the people around us that we are mature enough and well guided by the word and principles of the Lord

Prayer
Lord, our great God, You sent Your loving son to serve. You sent Him to sacrifice His life for us. Awaken us in the same spirit of service and fill us with grace to bear and give a love like Yours. May You always give us an open mind to distinguish right from wrongdoings—where there is hatred, let us sow love; where there is doubt, strengthen our faith; where there is darkness, show us the Light. Let not the noise of the world clog our ears, and cloud our minds with selfishness, apathy and fears. Lead us to an understanding and grant us wisdom to walk in Your way. We declare that we can all do this through His name. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amen
