Luke 16:1-13

Date posted: September 21, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Luke 16:1-13
He also said to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a steward, and charges were brought to him that this man was wasting his goods. And he called him and said to him, `What is this that I hear about you? Turn in the account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward.’ And the steward said to himself, `What shall I do, since my master is taking the stewardship away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg. I have decided what to do, so that people may receive me into their houses when I am put out of the stewardship.’ So, summoning his master’s debtors one by one, he said to the first, `How much do you owe my master?’ He said, `A hundred measures of oil.’ And he said to him, `Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’ Then he said to another, `And how much do you owe?’ He said, `A hundred measures of wheat.’ He said to him, `Take your bill, and write eighty.’ The master commended the dishonest steward for his shrewdness; for the sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light.” And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous mammon, so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal habitations. “He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and he who is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in that which is anothers, who will give you that which is your own? No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

Reflection
Upon reading the Gospel my question is how could some people serve different bosses without feeling any guilt? The Gospel is all about trust and about the Lord’s first commandment, which is that we shall not have any other Gods beside Him. Since the Gospel is about trust and the first commandment, it tells me to be honest because with honesty comes with trust. If we exercise honesty, other people will tend to trust us. The Gospel also wants me to serve the Lord and no one but Him. Serving Him means that in everything that we do He is the priority and the center of our lives. After reflecting through the Gospel, I pray that we will practice and develop the sense of honesty even if it is hard. I also pray and hope that we have the courage to make God the center of our life, and for those who are still struggling to do so, may the Lord help them find their way to Him. May He bring peace of mind, calmness, and serenity to us.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
As stated in the LGP, we should value and engage in Lasallian formation programs. In relation to the gospel, one way of serving Him is through creating spiritual opportunities to those who are having a hard time connecting to Him. Also, we should be trustworthy and free of judgement when it comes to the burden of our fellow Lasallians. We all know how generous St. John Baptist de la Salle was, that he gave those who are in need the chance and way to connect to God. He was also an understanding person even if the situations are hard. The challenge for each Lasallian is to learn how to be compassionate, empathetic, and honest.

One Life One Prayer
Holy Spirit
You love us and offer us the gift of association.
You call us to love with joy

Lord, grant us your strength for a life full of meaning
Fill us with your grace so that we will live the values of the gospel
Our inner life will grow.
