Luke 17, 20-25

Date posted: November 15, 2018

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Luke 17, 20-25
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke
Asked by the Pharisees when the Kingdom of God would come, Jesus said in reply, “The coming of the Kingdom of God cannot be observed, and no one will announce, ‘Look, here it is,’ or, ‘There it is.’ For behold, the kingdom of God is among you.”
Then he said to his disciples, "The days will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. There will be those who will say to you, ‘Look, there he is,’ (or) ‘Look, here he is.’ Do not go off, do not run in pursuit.
For just as lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be (in his day).
But first he must suffer greatly and be rejected by this generation.”

Reflection
The coming of the kingdom of God is not something we can predict. In the gospel, when the Pharisees tried to ask Jesus about His own expectation, He did not answer them directly and instead expressed that they are asking the wrong question. This means that it is not the timing we should be concerned about, but rather the nature of the kingdom that is within us. The kingdom is essentially God’s reign in the individual soul. It is not only a future reality but something that is present now and will be fully revealed later in the future. The Day of the Son of Man is identical to the Day of the Lord which will be the coming of His glory. As much as we long for it though, we should be aware of men who will proclaim false news about the messiah. We are not to believe them because just like lightning, there is no certain time for the coming of the Son of Man. When this day comes, he won’t appear to just a few or in secret. He will be visible to all— believer and unbeliever alike therefore, we must always be ready anytime.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “discover God’s active presence in his Word, men and women, in the poor, in nature, in history, and in ourselves.” That signifies our faithfulness and devotion to God will save us no matter what our gender or social class is but the content of our hearts will matter. His second coming will surprise everyone that no one knows when but we should be ready anytime. As a fellow lasallians, we should take part to carry out God’s plan to save people through Him. We should live by letting His grace and love embrace us. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.I will strengthen you and help you;I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)

Prayer
Heavenly Father, shower us with Your glory and guide us to Your kingdom. Grant us freedom of spirit and set our minds and hearts at ease as we fully entrust ourselves to You. Teach us be patient as we go through life. Be the Ruler of our hearts and the Master of our lives that we may always live in Your love and truth. Protect us from all dangers and lead us to salvation. We surrender ourselves for You and for Your greater glory. Oh Lord, let Your will be done. Amen.
