Gospel: Luke 17:1-6
Jesus said to his disciples, “Things that cause sin will inevitably occur, but woe to the person through whom they occur. It would be better for him if a millstone were put around his neck and he be thrown into the sea than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he wrongs you seven times in one day and returns to you seven times saying, ‘I am sorry,’ you should forgive him.”
And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.”
The Lord replied, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to (this) mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.
Reflection
The gospel shows that having faith may give power to those that are considered to be of the lowest level in society. As the Lord has compared a mustard seed to a tree, a simple person could influence a lot of people if they have faith in what they do. Even the people who are not of noble or wealthy origin are able to achieve greatness if they have faith in their deeds and goals in life. Hence, we should always keep in mind that as a child of God, we should be a vessel of blessing for other people for we are created as an instrument of God.
Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…the spirit of faith is the spirit that enables the believers to take necessary risks and act with boldness in accomplishing what is demanded by each situation, placing their trust to God’s providence to guide, sustain and make fruitful with their efforts.” In relation to the gospel, the power to impact people’s lives cannot be mongered by the powerful alone, but instead, everyone has the potential to influence others to do good. It can be seen with how Jesus, a man who was not of government affiliation, managed to encourage the masses to love one another and follow the Lord. As a Lasallian, we should understand and love one another the way God loves us.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, increase our faith as we learn to depend on You and trust You more and more. Help us to crave Your Word to read it, to heed it, and to test it, so it can truly become part of our lives. We long to be doers and not just hearers. Lord we desperately need more of You and less of ourselves. Thank You for Your faithfulness in always keeping Your Word. Help us to live in kindness and in peace, we ask for your forgiveness and guidance for we committed sins in our life. Help us to understand and love one another wholeheartedly as You love us. This we pray, in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
