Luke 19, 1-10

Date posted: November 20, 2018

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Luke 19, 1-10
Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.
When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.
All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”
But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”
Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Reflection
The gospel reminded us that Jesus looks beyond our sins and love us despite of our imperfections. Being a tax collector during Jesus’s time were known to be a sinner for they are usually a corrupt. However, Jesus sees Zacchaeus as a son of Abraham regardless of what people entitled him to be, how good our God is to seek and to save the lost. We, Lasallians are also God’s faithful servants who are gladly to be an instrument to help the lost, the least and the last by looking forward to how Jesus serves us. Lasallians also understand the Importance of Spirit of faith by developing the faith of the students and the desire to serve with generosity, compassion and commitment through the zeal for service. Being like Jesus, we also shares one vision, one spirit and one mission and relating to other people especially to those who are in need. Exhibiting an inspiring manners has always been evident to a Lasallian with the help of the guiding principles of Lasallian students that shows the students the right conduct. We also have a chance to show our good manners through our associations and social development to eliminate any human suffering and to live the fullness of God’s plan. The institution also seeks to provide a good education because they believe that producing a service-oriented professionals would make the world a better place. We should also look forward to how Zacchaeus seeks Jesus by climbing into a tree, we must also make an effort in order to know what is the most valuable things in life.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows one to constantly desire to exhibit manners that are inspiring …” In relation to the the gospel and LGP, immersing ourselves in the loving presence of the Lord, will change us for the better and cleanse us from the past mistakes we’ve made. In addition, when God showers us with blessings; giving some, if not all, to the poor will not only help them but will also help us in being a step further into the Kingdom of God. If one has will, then one will find a way. As a Lasallian, we must not be afraid of change for it may be for the better. Sharing especially to the poor will lead us closer to the loving arms of the Lord as well.

Prayer
Dear God, we glorify and praise for this day, thank you for the privilege, to honor and be with you every second of our lives. We are truly thankful for the blessings you have given us, and today, we ask for your knowledge, wisdom and understanding as we face multiple challenges in our lives. Help us to choose the right decision that would glorify and worship you. Lord God, we ask for your forgiveness as we forget to live to the purpose you’ve given us, help us to be a better individual as we give back the blessings you’ve given us to others. Lastly, thank you for the breath of life you’ve given us this morning for us to continue our purpose. We give back all the praises and honor to you, In Jesus Name, Amen.

Lasallian Prayer for Peace
We pray to you, O Lord,
God of life and God of those who hope!
Listen to our prayer for the whole world:
For peace among all peoples,
For prosperity in all lands.
We pray to you that evil may be overcome
And that all wars may end.
We pray to You especially for the members
Of our Lasallian Family,
Who suffer from war, injustice and intolerance,
And for children and young people who are poor ad neglected.
We pray too, God, for peace in our lives;
In our towns, in our schools,
In our families and in our own hearts.
We pray for a peace that the world cannot give us.
We pray for a peace that will make us whole
And transform us into ambassadors of justice for Your sake.
Lord, give us Your peace! Amen.
