Luke 21:1-4

Date posted: November 26, 2018

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Luke 21:1-4
The Widow’s Offering
As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”

Reflection
In this gospel Jesus shows us that the amount of coin the poor widow gave was was more significant than that of the rich, not because of the amount of money but because she sacrificed all that she had just to support the temple. The value of personal sacrifice is exemplified here, it is not how much we give but how much we are willing to sacrifice in the support of something that would benefit others. Our faith helps us to sacrifice more of what we have because we understand and believe in the value of helping others and helping our community. As Jesus sacrificed himself for our sins, we must also make sacrifices for the good of others.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows one to support and promote creative and holistic education…” In relation to the gospel, it is about sacrifices. A comparison between the rich and poor. Mentioned how out of all the people, the poor gave the greatest out of all of them. Despite her status of poverty, she kept a positive disposition and was able to give all that she had. As humans, we have a strong power of mind. It is within ourselves, if we are willing to provide, to sacrifice what we have no matter what for and despite the situation.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, we would like to this time with you to ask that you continuously grant us with your heavenly grace. Please continue to guide us throughout our day to day actions that we may live by each day by your holy word. Give us the heart to love, so that we may give out of our hearts and not with our wealth. Help us to realize that your plan for us is much better than the plans that we have for ourselves. Give us a positive disposition to continue to do our actions for the good of others and see the goodness of your grace within others. In your holy name, we pray, Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de la Salle, pray for us.
