Luke 21:20-28

Date posted: November 29, 2018

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Luke 21:20-28
“When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time, they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

Reflection
This passage is about Jesus warning about Jerusalem’s fall. He mentioned the Gentiles taking over. He told the signs that will precede the events; “the sun, moon and stars will be shaken, and the sea will roar and toss, signifying that the world will be in a chaotic state, out of control.” It is also stated here that after the chaos comes the Son of God. It is emphasized that we should be ready for the His coming and accept God with confidence and believe in Him because our redemption is a blessing. Instead of focusing on the tragedies or difficulties that will come beforehand, we should stand up and lift our heads up. Let us welcome and praise Him for He will judge us and we will be with Him for all eternity.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows one to judge and evaluate things in the light of the gospel.” In relation to the gospel, we, people, tend to be scared easily to any tragedies that may come unto us. We overthink the situation because we believe that it is the only way on how to plan on surviving and overcoming those tragedies. In fact, this scenario doesn’t help us at all. It just caused a lot of burden in our hearts. Also, we just overlooked that God is with us all the time and He is capable of helping us to overcome our difficulties. As a Lasallian, we should be brave on all the difficulties that will come to us  because God believes that we can overcome it. We should also be thankful on His grace and mercy upon helping us overcome our struggles.

Prayer
Our father in heaven, we thank you for another beautiful day. We thank you for blessings that we have received. We thank you for your guidance. We are sorry for all the things that we’ve done. Therefore, we ask for your forgiveness. We pray for everything and everyone especially to those who experienced pain and suffering. Keep us and our family safe each day and night. Give us strength to participate in our classes today. Please always remember us and continue to bless us. Amen.
