Luke 21:34-36

Date posted: December 1, 2018

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Luke 21:34-36
“But take heed to yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a snare; for it will come upon all who dwell upon the face of the whole earth. But watch at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of man.”

Reflection
This Gospel is the absolute reminder of how we must be living our daily lives. Most of us are noosed in the cruelness of our everyday lives, and forget to understand what Jesus is truly asking from us. There are a myriad of temptations that can lead us down the wrong way, and turn us away from the path that God has paved for us. We should practice ourselves every day to pray and talk to God and ask his help to control and say no to temptations that could sever our bond with him and the life he has planned for us. Acknowledge the problems that we might face instead of walking away. Face the obstacles and feel the strength and grace of the God. The Gospel passage is a short reading yet so powerful. It contains a message that we need to understand and do wholeheartedly. It is a revelation to each and every one of us that we should not let ourselves be eaten up by the glamorous aspects of life- whether it is money, power or position. Instead, we must ask and pray for courage and strength to seclude ourselves from temptations and evil acts.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…communion as a way of accomplishing mission suggests the solidarity and collaboration that come from sharing in one vision, one spirit and one mission.” In life, we will encounter a lot of things that will blind us from the truth—the real provider of what we see as the glorious things in this world is the God that most of us never put first. We become very materialistic because we are too busy to notice that communion to our purpose and gracing our relationship to our Almighty Father are what will truly prosper us not just here on Earth but in heaven as well.

Prayer
Oh Merciful and Loving Father,
I am astonished by the way; you love me from birth to maturity, from joy to desolation, and from day to night. You do not disparage me for my mistakes, and show me the way to reinvention in the face of shortcomings or failures. I am forever grateful for your priceless love and help, and I shall do my best to share your love with others through good deeds and words. Help me understand the importance of being idle in situations that do harm, and the virtue of patience in times of distress. Help me in making the changes necessary to be enveloped in your love. Heal me from the inside out, and guide me through the roads of life. Awaken the life in me. This we pray, in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
