Luke 3:10-18

Date posted: December 16, 2018

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Luke 3:10-18
And the multitudes asked him, “What then shall we do?” And he answered them, “He who has two coats, let him share with him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise.” Tax collectors also came to be baptized, and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Collect no more than is appointed you.” Soldiers also asked him, “And we, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Rob no one by violence or by false accusation, and be content with your wages.” As the people were in expectation, and all men questioned in their hearts concerning John, whether perhaps he were the Christ, John answered them all, “I baptize you with water; but he who is mightier than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor, and to gather the wheat into his granary, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.” So, with many other exhortations, he preached good news to the people.

Reflection
In this gospel I have learned how people in the past accept our Christianity. John the Baptist made us realize that we should give something to those in need and this is the true spirit of Christmas. Christmas is not about having good gifts, decorations underneath your Christmas tree. It is not about the Santa Claus, the reindeers, and the elves that made us think that it is payback time for our godparents for what they have done in the past years. Christmas is about how people accept persons and how they show dedication in their chosen paths. This gospel taught us to be generous enough to those people who are in need in any aspects. John the Baptist calls for repentance and conversion. This can be also done through every generous acts to others.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…communion as a way of accomplishing mission suggests the solidarity and collaboration that come from sharing in one vision, one spirit and one mission.” This guiding principle reminds us to be committed in serving others even in simple ways. It also teaches us the value of sharing which always comes from the heart. This suggests that we should be other-oriented for selfishness leads to actions contrary to what God wants us to be. With this communion in mission will always be possible.

Prayer
Our dear heavenly father we are grateful for the life you have given us and for showing what steadfast love is. We are thankful for a wonderful life, good health and bountiful blessing. May you help the people who are in need, hug the persons who are tempted to do evil and may you be the light of their lives. Bring us the best Christmas. Lord forgive us for the sins that we always commit and help us to forgive like what you do. Help us to share our blessings in a good way. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord with the
Holy Spirit one God forever and ever. Amen
