Luke 4: 21-30

Date posted: February 3, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Luke 4: 21-30
He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked. Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’” “Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown. I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. And there were many in Israel with leprosy[a] in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.” All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.

Reflection
In the Gospel when Jesus said, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing”, the people then replied, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son? This particular conversation between the people and Jesus depicts the interaction between ourselves and God. Just because God is silent, people are questioning Him without realizing and knowing that God is working on our prayers and wishes. We always seek for an immediate response and answers to our prayers and we became jealous because other people already got what they’ve prayed for. Our God is a very loving and generous God and we just need to trust Him. If Jesus enabled the blind to see and He even freed the people from evil spirits, why are you worried and tend to question His perfect plan for you?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “Lasallian institutions must strive to develop among its members greater recognition of the realities of human suffering and stewardship role that shares in preserving the integrity of God’s creation and creating a humane and just society.” In this modern era, where negativity, depression and doubt take over the hearts of the global community, we should be the light that saves others from the fathomless pith of darkness and difficulties. We should be the answers to their prayers and we should embody the Word of God so that we can lift and help others by awakening them on how God works on our prayers. We should view the world through the ‘eyes of faith’ so that we can always feel the presence of our Holy and Loving God.

Prayer
O Holy and loving God, help us transform ourselves into responsible citizens capable of bringing light and hope to other people. We pray that all of the people suffering from poverty, mental distress and other challenges will find their way to you. Help us in discovering Your plans and aspirations for us, so that our relationship with you will grow day by day. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Your Son. Amen.
