Luke 7: 11-17

Date posted: September 17, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Luke 7: 11-17
Jesus journeyed to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd accompanied him.
As he drew near to the gate of the city, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow.
A large crowd from the city was with her.
When the Lord saw her, he was moved with pity for her and said to her, “Do not weep.”
He stepped forward and touched the coffin; at this the bearers halted, and he said, “Young man, I tell
you, arise!”
The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.
Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, exclaiming, “A great prophet has arisen in our midst,” and
“God has visited his people.”
This report about him spread through the whole of Judea and in all the surrounding region.

Reflection
Today’s gospel tells us that Jesus is the Lord, not only of the living but of the dead as well. Jesus felt a wholehearted compassion to the widow who lost her son. Through the power of His words, He was able to bring back the life of a dead man and cleanse him from sins. It brought him the freedom to his soul. Indeed, nothing is impossible when you believe in Him, may all the believer of Lord Jesus, be granted with abundant life. As Lasallians, Do you trust in the Lord Jesus to give you an everlasting hope inspite of life’s struggles and moments of despair?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
As stated in the LGP, the spirit of faith allows one to search God’s will in order to carry out his saving plan. In the gospel, the widow was in desperate times, however, she believed in the power of Jesus.
Hence, Jesus felt compassion and healed the son. We all experience struggles in life. Even our founder Saint John Baptist de la Salle, who still managed to search for God’s calling for him though many oppose his plans. As Lasallians, we are challenged us to strengthen our faith in Him despite the problems we face.
