Gospel Reading

“Say the word – be healed”
Luke 7:1-10
After he had ended all his sayings in the hearing of the people he entered Capernaum. Now a centurion had a slave who was dear to him, who was sick and at the point of death. When he heard of Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his slave. And when they came to Jesus, they begged him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy to have you do this for him, for he loves our nation, and he built us our synagogue.” And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed. For I am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, `Go,’ and he goes; and to another, `Come,’ and he comes; and to my slave, `Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard this he marveled at him, and turned and said to the multitude that followed him, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave well.

Reflection
Do you approach the Lord Jesus with confident trust and expectant faith? Expectant faith and humility draws us close to the Lord Jesus. The Lord is merciful and gracious to all who seek him. How do you approach the Lord Jesus – with doubt, fear, and disbelief or with trust and confident expectation that he will give you whatever you need to follow and serve him? Surrender your pride and doubts to him and seek him earnestly with humble trust and expectant faith. For sure we will receive what we are longing for.

Lasallian Guiding Principles
Our founder St. John Baptist De La Salle inherited his faith from his family. He whole-heartedly followed Jesus and trusted Him as the source of everything he needs in his ministry. There are instances of lack and nothing but he taught his brothers that “God will always provide”. The invitation of the Lasallian Guiding Principles is to follow the example of our founder’s strong faith in God.

Prayer
Lord Jesus you came to set us free from the tyranny of sinful pride, fear, and rebellion. Take our hearts captive to your merciful love and truth and set us free to love and serve you always with joy and trust in the power of your saving word. May your love grow in us that we may always seek to love and serve others generously for their sake just as you have generously laid down your life for our sake. We make this prayer in your Mighty Name with the Father and the Holy Spirit one God forever and ever, Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de la Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
