Gospel Reading

Luke 8:16-18
“No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a vessel, or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, that those who enter may see the light. For nothing is hid that shall not be made manifest, nor anything secret that shall not be known and come to light. Take heed then how you hear; for to him who has will more be given, and from him who has not, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away.”

Reflection
“The truth will set you free.” In the phrase, attaining our personal freedom, we must be true to ourselves and be true to other people. The practices of “covering up” for someone or not telling the truth turn out to be a common practice in our society. Being blind to the truth, keeping the mouth shut to the realities of life, and even telling lies are used to conceal something. The gospel today encourages us to be like a lamp that Jesus put in a lamp stand. Jesus encourages us to spread the light of the gospel to other through our provision and illuminate the truth in our daily life. As a child of God, Am I God’s bearer of His message and a living witness of the truth to other people? Am I the source of light to other people in their darkness moment of their light?

Lasallian Guiding Principles
The Guiding Principles of the Philippine Lasallian Family reminded us that we must be context- sensitive so that it could be purposeful and sustainable. It simply means that we as a Lasallian must uplift the dignity of every human being and must include all the aspect of human life in every service we were offering particularly in the field of our specialization which is in health care service. Are we sensitive enough to the priorities and the needs of the people who are in need? Am I becoming a light of all the people who are in darkness mostly on the worst situations of their life? We must always return to the vision-mission statement of the Institution which helps us to align our kind of service to other. We were reminded as a health care service provider; we must be the source of all the truth where our line of service is all about nurturing the life and protecting the dignity of life of every person entrusted to our care. We must keep our dignity as part of the Institutions in curing and healing the people who are trusted in our care. The gospel encourage us to be the channel of truth since being true and honest is one of the virtue that a health care provider must possess in doing its duty to its patient.

Prayer
Lord God, nurturer of life and defender of human dignity. We humbly pray each one of us to enlighten our eyes and minds to the realities of life. Give us courage and wisdom to defend the truth in the midst of all the confusions and threats in our world. Give us strength to continue our mission as a Lasallian by nurturing the life of other people and protecting the dignity and rights of all. Send us your Holy Spirit to enlighten our heart and mind in spreading the good news to other people. All this we ask through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de la Salle, pray for us.
