Luke 9:43-45

Date posted: September 28, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Luke 9:43-45
And all were astonished at the majesty of God. But while they were all marveling at everything he did, he said to his disciples, “Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of man is to be delivered into the hands of men." But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.

Reflection
In the gospel, the disciples did not understand what Jesus meant when He said that He was to be handed over to men. His disciples were all used to Jesus being the miracle worker and healer. Even us, if we were with the disciples at that time we will not also understand these utterance of Jesus. But now we know what Jesus meant when He said that He was to be handed over to men. It simply means that as we follow Jesus there shall be moments of seamless life, glory and triumph. But let us not get drunk with these for there shall come a time that our discipleship shall be tested by the fire of trials and sacrifices.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
As stated in the Lasallian Guiding Principle, the spirit allows one to search God’s will in order to carry out his saving plan. Just like in the gospel, God wants us to know that one day our faith will be tested by Him. We have to search God’s will in order to achieve and receive His blessings. There will be times that we don’t understand God’s plan for us, and we might think of giving up but we must remember that these challenges will make us stronger and closer to Him. This is also to pattern our ways to the life of our founder St. John Baptist de La Salle who led the children of France to the fullness of their life through education despite of the challenges he faced. He searched and followed for God’s will which resulted to his works intended for the salvation of the people, especially the children.

One Life Prayer
Holy Spirit
You love us and offer us the gift of association.
You call us to live with joy
You invite us to be people with a creative inner life
Lord, grant us your strength for a life full of meaning
Fill us with your grace so that we will live the values of the gospel.
Our inner life will grow
And that we will be credible witnesses
Together with the entire Lasallian Family
In the midst of our world.
We make this prayer through the intercession of Mary
Queen and Mother of the Christian Schools, and through
The intercession of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, patron of teachers. Amen.
