Luke 9,57-62
On the road someone asked if he could go along. “I’ll go with you, wherever,” he said. Jesus was curt: “Are you ready to rough it? We’re not staying in the best inns, you know.” Jesus said to another, “Follow me.” He said, “Certainly, but first excuse me for a couple of days, please. I have to make arrangements for my father’s funeral.” Jesus refused. “First things first. Your business is life, not death. And life is urgent: Announce God’s kingdom!” Then another said, “I’m ready to follow you, Master, but first excuse me while I get things straightened out at home.” Jesus said, “No procrastination. No backward looks. You can’t put God’s kingdom off till tomorrow. Seize the day.”

Reflection
In the Gospel Jesus said, “First things first. Your business is life, not death. And life is urgent: Announce God’s kingdom!” From this line itself we can easily understand that Jesus wants us to focus on the present. It might sound cliché when people say “past is past” but that is the truth, no we cannot take back our decisions, we cannot undo our actions. That’s why it is import that we must think deeply first before we do something whether we think it is a good deed or not. What’s done is done, mistakes are normal and we cannot take it back anymore. What’s important is we’ve learned our lesson and we know that we must do better next time.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows one to judge and evaluate things in the light of the gospel.” It is within us if we will spread negativity or positivity towards others. In relation to our gospel, it is important that we share the lessons that we’ve learned on our own to others especially to those who need it. Younger generations will benefit the most in every life lesson that we earned from our mistakes. If you’ve experienced it firsthand you know it to yourself that you know better, and if you know better it is important that we inform others of the possibilities that may happen, because again, there are endless possibilities in our life.

Prayer
Lord, through this Gospel may you bless us the selflessness that you have. May you guide is in every challenge that we face in order to look forward to the life lessons that we will earn. We know that you will not give us anything that you know we cannot face either alone or with the help of others. And may you continue to bless us with strength that we need to keep each and every one of us on track. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Your Son. Amen.

St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
