Mark 1:29-39

Date posted: January 16, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Mark 1:29-39
“On leaving the synagogue Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. Simon’ mother-in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them. When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him. Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. Simon and those who were with him pursued him and on finding him said, “Everyone is looking for you. “He told them, "Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come. “So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons throughout the whole of Galilee..”

Reflection
Looking through the gospel of today, Jesus had set his foot to those who are least, last, and lost. Indeed, the heart of Jesus flows to those who are in need of His salvation; His goodness attracts those who are broken, tortured by daily cruelty, left, and forgotten. The healing he has always brought forth is not limited to physical relief, but was a healing of doubt, anxiety, guilt, and all that weighs us down. He is the cure; a strengthening of ourselves that gives us a lift to conquer today. His purpose of healing and enlightenment still happens today. The church, his instrument of peace, is the people of healing. The peace of heart, mind, and soul people find in prayer through the teachings of the church is the ministry of Jesus; thus the lift of the soul in deep human sympathy shares the ministry of Christ. In our everyday living filled with dilemma, how can we be instrument of God’s healing?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…communion as a way of accomplishing mission suggests the solidarity and collaboration that come from sharing in one vision, one spirit and one mission.” While Saint John Baptist De La Salle also once said, “Throw yourself into God’s arms. He will carry you when the road is rough.” The founder experienced a lot of struggles and challenges in life but the loving father never left him. Being a Lasallian doesn’t only carry the name of the Lord but also the faith in him. Jesus easily enters to the people with an empty heart, a person who let Him enter within them and allow their hearts to be fulfilled by the Holy Spirit. Following the footsteps of St. John Baptist De La Salle and abiding the Lasallian Principles will help everyone to be healed by God not only physically but also in spiritual aspects of life. Being an imperfect person doesn’t mean that God is not with you, instead those people are the one who need God’s presence. Every Lasallian should leave Jesus in everyone’s heart.

Prayer
Dear Almighty Father,
You are truly powerful and we admire all Your works. You have continuously shown us the power of your love even in difficult times. You have never failed to make us feel Your presence even if we fail to show ours. Those days that we forget to communicate with You, at least through prayers, You still gave Your time and power to remind us that You are here for us in all circumstances. Lord, we are asking for forgiveness for all our shortcomings. To all the times that we have been too busy that we constantly forget to talk and communicate with You, we ask for mercy. We are sincerely sorry for overlooking You, O Lord. The blessings that You have showered us are truthfully kind of You despite the fact that we ignore You in our daily lives. In all instances of us needing Your help, You have given your open arms and made us believe that You are rightly beside us to give directions and light our paths. We thank You for Your never ending love for us that You make us feel to let all our doubts be gone. Lord, we ask for your guidance in our daily tasks that we may fulfill them wholeheartedly. May You help us accomplish all our jobs and serve the people around us just like what Jesus did to His people. Lord, we also pray for the success of everyone in giving their genuine service to the people who are sick, in need, and lost. May You give us strength in order for us to continuously serve the people of God. Lord, we are faithfully open to sharing and teaching Your mighty words to the people of God. May You use us to be Your instrument in serving the people just like what Jesus did. And in the near future, we promise to be of help to those who are least, lost, and last. This we pray, in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist De La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
