Mark 9:24-29

Date posted: February 24, 2020

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Mark 9:24-29
Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he
said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”
The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said,
“He’s dead.” But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.
After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.”

Reflection
This gospel is all about Jesus helping a young boy and his father to unleash and cast out a demon that was inside
the boy and all Jesus needed was the father of the boy to have faith. A lot of us feel like Jesus isn’t there with us or
that he abandoned us whenever we face problems All we need to do is to have faith in him like what the father did
and simply trust and believe in him. Praying was also an important aspect in the gospel. It is important to always pray in order to build and deepen our relationship with Jesus. Why is prayer so powerful?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
As a Lasallian student, we nourish the values that we learn in the DLSMHSI which are the spirit of faith, the zeal for
service, the communion in mission and the reverence for life. In the Lasallian guiding principle, it tells us that
Lasallians should unite as one and practice the correct and proper way of life or service. In order for us to achieve
this principle, we should have faith in ourselves and zeal for rendering correct practices in the community. Applying
the core values of DLSMHSI is one of the factors in achieving a standard way of life without cheating and biases in
our life. For example, we Lasallian future health care providers practice the correct way of rendering service to our
patient wherein we study and memorize different principle in order for us to exemplify the correct way of service to
people.

Prayer for the Year of Ecumenism, Inter-Religious Dialogue and Indigenous Peoples
Almighty, Ever-living God, the most Merciful and Compassionate, we thank You for Creation and the life You have
given us. Together, we people of diverse religions, spiritual expressions and indigenous traditions who invoke You by
different names, humbly pray that You give us the opportunity to encounter each other through Dialogue, to reach
mutual respect and reciprocal acceptance of each other, and to break down the walls of division that stand at the
center of most misunderstandings and conflicts.
Make us instruments of Your Light, Love and Peace. Guide us to walk always in Your Path and be a source of hope
to everyone so that we may discover Your Divine Presence in each other.
Show us the way to Harmony and Unity to reach the fullness of human fraternity. Give us the wisdom to discern the
Truth and to freely choose what is right and just to make this world a better place to live in.
Together, we ask You for the wisdom and the courage to fulfil Your Will that all may be ONE. Amen
We make this prayer through the intercession of Mary
Queen and Mother of the Christian Schools, and through
the intercession of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, patron of teachers. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
