Gospel: Matthew 11:20-24
Jesus began to reproach the towns where most of his mighty deeds had been done, since they had not repented.
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!
For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes.
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
And as for you, Capernaum:
Will you be exalted to heaven?
You will go down to the netherworld.
For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”
Reflection
In the Gospel, the three cities namely Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum were fortunate enough to see for themselves the missionary activities of Jesus. But, sadly, it is not enough to see for them to accept and believe in Jesus. Sometimes, we always say, to see is to believe. But today’s Gospel is a proof that it is not always the case. At times, it is the other way around, we need to believe first for us to be able to see the truth unfolding before us. How does this passage apply for those who have already accepted Jesus in their life?
Lasallian Guiding Principle
The LGP challenges us that our actions must always be life-affirming. We are called to always affirm life because everyone has value and worthy of respect according to the social teachings of the church. As such the principle of common good solidifies this concept by pointing to us that every person is important. But there are those who spend the whole day and night constantly checking the stocks.
Prayer
ONE COMMITMENT PRAYER
Lord Jesus,
You love us all and make us your brothers and sisters.
You call us to follow you.
You invite us to announce the Good News.
Lord, grant us the courage to live our commitment.
Teach us to go beyond our borders.
Teach us to discover you in the lowliest
Teach us to see with the eyes of faith
Teach us to share our mission with all Lasallians
Throughout the whole world.
We make this prayer through the intercession of Mary,
Queen and Mother of the Christian Schools,
And through the intercession of St. John Baptist de la Salle, patron of teachers. Amen.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
