Matthew 1:18-25

Date posted: December 18, 2018

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 1:18-25
This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.”

Reflection
The gospel tells us how Mary and Joseph fulfilled the Lord’s mission for them. It explains how Virgin Mary conceived a child through the Holy Spirit and how Joseph, a gentle and righteous man come to accept his role in becoming the father of the Savior Jesus, the Son of God. Mary and Joseph were chosen by the Lord for this task and they showed extraordinary faith in both following Lord’s plan. When God calls us for a mission, He always provides and guides us in everything that we need. All we need to do have faith in him as we trust and follow his ways and his plans for us. Would you also fully entrust your purpose to the Lord like Mary and Joseph did?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…communion as a way of accomplishing mission suggests the solidarity and collaboration that come from sharing in one vision, one spirit and one mission.” In connection with the gospel, together like Mary and Joseph accomplishes their mission as the parents of Jesus, the Son of God. We should also serve our one purpose together. As Lasallians, we have one mission and purpose to serve people especially the poor and the vulnerable. We should accomplish these duties and responsibilities as we always give thanks and ask God for His grace in everything we do.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, we praise You, we glorify You and we love You. We thank You for this day and for the blessings we have received. Forgive us, Lord for our sins and shortcomings. May you guide us through this day in everything that we do. Teach us how to be more loving, patient and compassionate to others. Show us how to be like Mary and Joseph as they accept and follow your plans. Help us discern and serve our purpose and trust Your plans as we give all the praises and glory to You. This we pray, in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist De La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
