Matthew 1:20-21

Date posted: March 19, 2020

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Matthew 1:20-21

But as he considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of
David, do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit; she will bear
a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” When Joseph woke
from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took his wife.

Reflection
Joseph’s willingness to act upon the word of God and his courage despite of his fear is the significantmoment
in our gospel. He trusted and followed the will of God despite of fear and hesitations. Joseph accepted and
obeyed hismission as the father of our Messiah. And just like him, God wants us to trust Him and be obedient
to His will for us. Can you recall a moment when you were certain that God was challenging you toward this
kind of obedience? How did it go?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
The LGP states that, “Zeal for service is a whole-hearted giving of oneself to the service of others, in gratuity
and generosity, in creativity and fortitude, in compassion and commitment.” Joseph has shown a great zeal
in his services to God by willingly obeying God and trusting in His decisions. St. La Salle’s also committed
and devoted his life to God through service, helping the needy, and guiding the Brothers and children in his
time. As Lasallians, we should take this as our inspiration to seek strength and guidance from the Lord,
especially during difficult times and what seems like insurmountable challenges coming in our personal lives.

Oratio Imperata Against the COVID-19
God our Father,
We come to you in our need
To ask your protection against COVID-19,
That has claimed lives and has affected many.
We pray for your grace
For the people tasked with studying the nature and cause
Of this virus and its disease
And of stemming the tide of its transmission.
Guide the hands and minds of medical experts
That they may minister to the sick
With competence and compassion,
And of those governments and private agencies
That must find cure and solution to this epidemic.
We pray for those afflicted
May they be restored to health soon.

Grant us the grace
To work for the good of all
And to help those in need.
Grant this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son,
Who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, forever and ever. Amen.
