Matthew 13:18-23

Date posted: July 26, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 13:18-23
Jesus said to His disciples: “Hear then the parable of the sower.
The seed sown on the path is the one who hears the word of the kingdom without understanding it, and the evil one comes and steals away what was sown in his heart.
The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and receives it at once with joy.
But he has no root and lasts only for a time. When some tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately falls away.
The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit.
But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.”

Reflection
There are different levels of receiving the seed – the Word of God. Today’s gospel explains this. Our hearts act as the soil. How would you describe your soil-heart – is it hard path, rocky, thorny, or fertile? Do you allow the Word of God to grow and bear fruits in our heart? How?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
The LGP reminds us that our actions must always be life-affirming. St. John Baptist de La Salle valued the lives especially of the poor children. He had been transforming lives of students until now. There are laws especially divine and church or ecclesiastical that guide us how to value life. As Lasallians, we observe the ethical standards.

Prayer
ONE COMMITMENT PRAYER
Lord Jesus,

You love us all and make us your brothers and sisters.
You call us to follow you.
You invite us to announce the Good News.
Lord, grant us the courage to live our commitment.
Teach us to go beyond our borders.
Teach us to discover you in the lowliest
Teach us to see with the eyes of faith
Teach us to share our mission with all Lasallians
Throughout the whole world.
We make this prayer through the intercession of Mary,
Queen and Mother of the Christian Schools,
And through the intercession of St. John Baptist de la Salle,
patron of teachers. Amen.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
