Matthew 13:24-30

Date posted: July 27, 2019

Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God.
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit Amen.

Guarding the good seed of God’s word in our heart
Gospel: Matthew 13:24-30
Another parable he put before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also.
And the servants of the householder came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field?
How then has it weeds?’ He said to them, `An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, `Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ But he said, `No; lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. Let both grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.'”

Meditation
Just as nature teaches us patience, so God’s patience also teaches us to guard the word which he has planted in our hearts and to beware of the destructive force of sin and deception which can destroy it. God’s word brings life, and he created us in his image. Do you allow God’s word to take deep root in your heart?

Lasallian Guiding Principles
LGP states that, “…reverence for life allows one to exercise patience..” – being a person who models interpersonal intelligence and builds constructive relationships with the eyes of faith, it is included in the TWELVE VIRTUES OF A GOOD TEACHER -In 1706, John Baptist de La Salle, patron saint of teachers, listed twelve virtues of a good teacher in his Conduct of the Christian Schools. In 1785, Brother Agathon, the fifth superior general of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, reissued the list in a much longer letter titled The Twelve Virtues of a Good Teacher. His letter was widely distributed for many years, and even up until the 1930s, a number of Catholic colleges used it as a text in education classes. (Saint Mary’s Press)
