Date posted: August 5, 2019

Let us remember that we are in the most holy presence of God.
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit .Amen.

“Jesus blessed the loaves and fishes”
Matthew 14:13-21
Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a lonely place apart. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. As he went ashore he saw a great throng; and he had compassion on them, and healed their sick. When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a lonely place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” Jesus said, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.”
They said to him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.” And he said, “Bring them here to me.”
Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass; and taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Meditation
What is Jesus motivation in giving the disciples the marching order of feeding the people? The reason is simple. Jesus was deeply moved with compassion for the crowds who are dirt poor, desperate and weary, like a sheep without shepherd . He is, in fact, heartbroken. This shows the excessive goodness of Jesus. He is divine mercy in person. The multiplication of bread is a divine revelation. It proves that God really cares for us. And this goodness of God exceeds the measure of all human expectations. And not only the physical hunger That Jesus wanted to satisfy, but more importantly, he wants to satisfy the hunger of the human heart – the hunger for justice, truth, mercy, happiness, peace.

Lasallian Guiding Principles
Our LGP entrusts that we must be”good stewards of this institution resources”. This calls for a deeper awareness of the reality of human scarce resources. But more than that, the challenge lies on how to make the best out of this scarcity. Through the spirit of sharing, Lasallians are now challenge to take part in satisfying the hunger of human heart for social justice and in the promotion of peace.
