Matthew 17:9a, 10-13

Date posted: December 15, 2018

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 17:9a, 10-13
And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of man is raised from the dead." And the disciples asked him, "Then why do the scribes say that first Eli’jah must come?” He replied, “Eli’jah does come, and he is to restore all things; but I tell you that Eli’jah has already come, and they did not know him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of man will suffer at their hands.” Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.

Reflection
At times, we also do not understand what Jesus is saying to us. At times, it may be difficult for us to hear Jesus’ voice. The busyness and noise in our lives can make us deaf to what Jesus may be saying to us. Today may we open our ears, our minds and our hearts! May we listen attentively for Jesus’ voice. Jesus will speak. Will we listen? Today, may we listen with the “ear of our heart.” I know people who can easily recognize someone from their distant past. I cannot, but from personal and witnessed experiences, know how God often elevates other related attributes. The unique value of each student was one of the reasons why I discerned to pursue education in De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute. God wants me to be an Elijah, prophesying good tidings to all people. Are you eager to
do God’s will and are you prepared to meet the Lord Jesus when he returns in glory?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…communion as a way of accomplishing mission suggests the solidarity and collaboration that come from sharing in one vision, one spirit and one mission.” God gives signs to show what he is about to do. John the Baptist is one such sign who pointed to Jesus and prepared the way for his coming. John fulfilled the essential task of all the prophets: to be fingers pointing to Jesus Christ. As watchful servants, we too must prepare for the Lord’s coming again by turning away from sin and from everything that would keep us from pursuing his will, his mission of bringing the Good News to the poor.

Prayer
Lord, your disciples sincerely tried to comprehend your identity and believe in you. We come before you today with our doubts and problems, hoping to find in this prayer an answer to our deepest aspirations. We want to believe with unwavering faith, and we want to love you with a devout heart. We offer you this time of prayer as our token of gratitude for all we have received from You. This we pray, in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ. Amen
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist De La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
