Matthew 18, 1-5.10

Date posted: November 19, 2018

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 18, 1-5.10
As Jesus approached Jericho a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging, and hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what was happening.
They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”
He shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!”
The people walking in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent, but he kept calling out all the more, “Son of David, have pity on me!”
Then Jesus stopped and ordered that he be brought to him; and when he came near, Jesus asked him,
What do you want me to do for you? He replied, “Lord, please let me see.”
Jesus told him, “Have sight; your faith has saved you.”
He immediately received his sight and followed him, giving glory to God. When they saw this, all the people gave praise to God.

Reflection
Do you really feel the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life?  In this gospel, Jesus offers an image of how the Holy Spirit works in us.  He compares the Holy Spirit to the wind.  We can hear the wind blowing but we cannot see it.  We do, however, we only see the effects of the wind.  For example, when you see a tree swaying, you know that the wind is blowing. Therefore, it is with the Holy Spirit in our lives. The Spirit comes to us from an unknown source.  We may not perceive the Holy Spirit Himself, but we will be able to see the effects of the Spirit.  When we perceive a new strength within us, or an increase in virtues, or an ability to forgive, and such, we become aware that the Holy Spirit is present, leading us, transforming us and guiding us.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows one to judge and evaluate things in the light of the gospel.” In relation to the gospel, faith is that strong push to believe unto something even without sufficient input from our senses. Perhaps, faith is that which holds and makes our pieces intact and minds at peace amidst all the problems that may occur, may it be caused by either external factors or one’s inner demons. Faith keeps one’s sanity in accord. Faith is one’s light in the darkness, as how Jericho conveyed in the gospel. This further proves the power and greatness of God, that despite not being seen physically, He never fail to make us feel we are loved. He works every day, guiding us without us even noticing. Therefore, as Lasallians, we should keep our faith strong and in track. As humans, however, it is inevitable for us to feel weak at times. Nevertheless, never forget that our knees have never been so far from the ground. Pray when you are feeling down. Talk to Him. He has always been, and will always be there for us. Even without us seeing Him.

Prayer
Almighty Father in Heaven, thank You for this day. Thank You for all the blessings you continuously bestow upon us each day. As we begin this new day, we ask You to open our hearts and minds so we receive your wisdom to see beyond and understand things that will be at hands today. May we always be whole and in peace in your grace so we can be nourished and sustained by your Holy Spirit. May we be renewed in the Holy Spirit so we may live always in your loving presence and peace. We also ask for your forgiveness as we forgive those who have sinned against us. Please continue sparing us from the devils that surround us and save us from our own inner demons. This we ask through Christ our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives, and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, forever. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de la Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
