Matthew 20,20-28

Date posted: July 25, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 20,20-28
The mother of the sons of Zebedee approached Jesus with her sons and did him homage, wishing to ask him for something.
He said to her, “What do you wish?” She answered him, “Command that these two sons of mine sit, one at your right and the other at your left, in your kingdom.” Jesus said in reply, “You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I am going to drink?” They said to him, “We can.” He replied, “My cup you will indeed drink, but to sit at my right and at my left, this is not mine to give but is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.” When the ten heard this, they became indignant at the two brothers. But Jesus summoned them and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and the great ones make their authority over them felt. But it shall not be so among you. Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave. Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Reflection
The gospel that we have today is a reminder of what service is all about and that is “to serve and not to be served… whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all”. Oftentimes we are tempted to be served and be given much attention by what we have, what we have done, and what we have achieved. As Lasallians, let us go back to our founder’s great and humble example by simply living the message of our gospel today and ask the grace of God to be more and not to have more as always.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
Our founder SJBDLS did something extraordinarily precisely because of his undeniable faith in our heavenly Father and that the power of the Hoy Spirit leads him to religiously follow the will of God by committing himself in nurturing and valuing the life of the poor children by affirming their dignity as human person. LGP reiterates the very mission of our Lasallian heritage i.e. eradicating if not lessen human suffering that contradicts God’s plan of fullness of life. As Lasallians, we are challenged to respond with full commitment and excellence through giving our best even in the most unlikely circumstance. Our actions then, must always be aligned with our founder’s aspirations by showing unconditional positive regard for the human person.

Prayer
ONE COMMITMENT PRAYER
Lord Jesus,
You love us all and make us your brothers and sisters.
You call us to follow you.
You invite us to announce the Good News.
Lord, grant us the courage to live our commitment.

Teach us to go beyond our borders.
Teach us to discover you in the lowliest
Teach us to see with the eyes of faith
Teach us to share our mission with all Lasallians
Throughout the whole world.
We make this prayer through the intercession of Mary,
Queen and Mother of the Christian Schools,
And through the intercession of St. John Baptist de la Salle, patron of teachers. Amen.

Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de la Salle, pray for us.
