Matthew 2:13-15; 19-23

Date posted: December 29, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Matthew 2:13-15; 19-23
When the Magi had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him.” Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt. He stayed there until the death of Herod, that what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled, “Out of Egypt I called my son.” When Herod had died, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child’s life are dead.” He rose, took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus was ruling over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go back there. And because he had been warned in a dream, he departed for the region of Galilee. He went and dwelt in a town called Nazareth, so that what had been spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled, “He shall be called a Nazorean.”

Reflection
It was evident in the gospel that we’ve read that Joseph is a man of faith. He was able to trust the Lord even in that difficult situation. Without hesitation, he obeyed the Lord because he believed that in that way, his son will be safe. He was able to commit into the Lord’s mission of saving his son. He was able to take the risk because he believed. God knows more than we do. He only wants what’s best for us. It also reminds us that we should always be mindful of His messages. What can we learn from our dreams?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
As stated in the LGP,” communion in mission as a way of relating to others suggests openness to all persons and the desire to be brother or sister to all especially those in need.” SJBDL’s goal is to build a school for the children. He was able to realize it with the help of those people he encountered along the way especially, the Lasallian brothers, who would later on, continued his mission. In spite of his fortune, establishing a school was not an easy feat. St. La Salle sought to find teachers who would dedicate their whole lives to teach the poor children and put the welfare and salvation of students before their own. Hence, he trained such teachers and bonded with them, and together they carried out God’s work through education.
