Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18

Date posted: February 26, 2020

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18
Jesus said to his disciples: “Take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise, you will
have no recompense from your heavenly Father. When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do
in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when
you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, so that your almsgiving may be secret. And your Father
who sees in secret will repay you. When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues
and on street corners so that others may see them. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray,
go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites. They neglect their appearance, so that they may appear to others to be
fasting. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that
you may not appear to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden. And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay
you.”

Reflection:
This Gospel teaches about the value of prayer, giving alms and fasting especially in this Lenten season. These will help us
focus our lives on God rather than ourselves. What God wants us to do is to do these practices with good intention, not just by
wanting to flex ourselves and to impress others. How can these Lenten practices help us live the life we received from God?

Lasallian Guiding Principle:
LGP states that, “As a member of a community, of the nation, and of the global village, Lasallian institutions must work in
solidarity with peoples and institutions that share the conviction in denouncing and working towards the elimination of unjust
practices…” Lasallians are distinct members of the community that are known for their Lasallian core values. They will stand
by for the truth and the greater good. The present societal problems are challenging the Lasallians to take action to defend the
poor and the marginalized sector in our community to help eliminate the unjust practices.

Prayer for the Year of Ecumenism, Inter-Religious Dialogue and Indigenous Peoples
Almighty, Ever-living God, the most Merciful and Compassionate, we thank You for Creation and the life You have
given us. Together, we people of diverse religions, spiritual expressions and indigenous traditions who invoke You
by different names, humbly pray that You give us the opportunity to encounter each other through Dialogue, to
reach mutual respect and reciprocal acceptance of each other, and to break down the walls of division that stand at
the center of most misunderstandings and conflicts.
Make us instruments of Your Light, Love, and Peace. Guide us to walk always in Your Path and be a source of hope
to everyone so that we may discover Your Divine Presence in each other.

Show us the way to Harmony and Unity to reach the fullness of human fraternity. Give us the wisdom to discern the
Truth and to freely choose what is right and just to make this world a better place to live in.
Together, we ask You for the wisdom and the courage to fulfill Your Will that all may be ONE. Amen

We make this prayer through the intercession of Mary
Queen and Mother of the Christian Schools, and through
the intercession of Saint John Baptist de la Salle, patron of teachers. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
