Matthew 7,6.12-14

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 7,6.12-14
Jesus said to his disciples, “Do not give what is holy to dogs, or throw your pearls before swine, lest they will trample them underfoot and turn and tear you to pieces. Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets.”
“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and those who enter through it are many. How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life. And those who find it are few.”

Reflection
The gospel is about “in everything, do to others as you would have them do to you.” People may be struggling with different kinds of relationships and situations. The rule of “do to others as you would have then do to you” is really difficult since we are dealing with emotions. But, if people try to stop doing something to people that they don’t want people to do to them, maybe people will be able to establish better rapport. Because the gospel is also about, not doing something that you don’t want people to do to you, as well. In the last few statements, going against the flow of everyone else’s is good as long as it is the right thing.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
The Lasallian guiding principle states that reverence for life means to nurture and respect other people’s lives. In relation to today’s gospel, we can demonstrate respect by being benevolent individuals. As the saying of the golden rule goes, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” If you are kind enough to your neighbors, they too, will be kind to you and thus both will gain respect from each other. Lastly, in everything that we do, we should always remember our responsibilities despite the norms. By this, we can fully nurture our lives and of other people’s since we need to do the right actions even if it is against everyone else’s.

One Heart Prayer
God, our Father, You love us with endless mercy. You call us to be your sons and daughters. You invite us to take care of the Earth, our common home. Lord, grant us a big heart. A heart always willing to love, a compassionate heart for those who suffer, a heart where there is a place for Lasallians all around the world. We make this prayer through the intercession of May, Queen and Mother of the Christian Schools, and through the intercession of Saint John Baptist De La Salle, patron of teachers, Amen.

Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
