MT 15:21-28

Date posted: August 7, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy presence of God
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel MT 15:21-28
At that time Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out,
“Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David!
My daughter is tormented by a demon.”
But he did not say a word in answer to her.
His disciples came and asked him,
“Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us.”
He said in reply,
“I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
But the woman came and did him homage, saying, “Lord, help me.”
He said in reply,
“It is not right to take the food of the children
and throw it to the dogs.”
She said, “Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps
that fall from the table of their masters.”
Then Jesus said to her in reply,
“O woman, great is your faith!
Let it be done for you as you wish.”
And her daughter was healed from that hour.

Reflection
The Gospel we have today is reminder of Faith that we should have amidst of the dismissive nature of the world.
Often times, we treat ourselves as “Leftovers” and it gives us the sense of not belonging to the community. But the faith we should have would be like the Canaanite woman, persevering even when dismissed by the crowds. Instead of treating ourselves as “scrap” we should be sharing the dignity of being at the “Masters Table”. In our faith like Lasallians, do we see ourselves as “scrap” or do we see ourselves in communion to the “ Master’s Table”?

Lasallian Guiding Principles
LGP states, “Vulnerable and marginalized sectors”. This terms means to those deprived of the means to realize their dignity as person. In other terms these are men, women and children who suffer from various form of poverty. As Lasallians and as good stewards of this institution we are the one who lift these persons from suffering from poverty and not to reject them.

ONE COMMITMENT PRAYER
Lord Jesus,
You love us all and make us your brothers and sisters.
You call us to follow you.
You invite us to announce the Good News.
Lord, grant us the courage to live our commitment.
Teach us to go beyond our borders.
Teach us to discover you in the lowliest
Teach us to see with the eyes of faith
Teach us to share our mission with all Lasallians
Throughout the whole world.
We make this prayer through the intercession of Mary,
Queen and Mother of the Christian Schools,
And through the intercession of St. John Baptist de la Salle, patron of teachers. Amen.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
