The Leveriza canteen, as the community fondly calls it, was a landmark at DLSHSI, a memory point for students, employees, and even for patients and relatives who have a history with DLSHSI. In fact, it had become a usual stop during reunions and campus visits for alumni.

Well today, visitors are in for a treat because in the same location of the former small canteen is a 2-storey elegantly designed building that is now called Café Verde hsi. The entire complex houses the same home-style fare and menu of dishes and snacks that are familiar to the canteen’s patrons and is open 24/7. Diners can choose to enjoy their meals either in the comfort of the airconditioned foodcourt or al fresco in the canopied tables where diners can enjoy a green and beautiful landscape.

During the blessing and formal opening, Mrs. Mabini Leveriza thanked those who never left her from when she was starting at DLSUMC until now especially those who made Café Verde hsi possible. She also promised everyone that they will continue to improve services and provide nutritious and affordable food. “I only hope that the students will come here and I will be very happy,” she said.

Present during the blessing was no less than DLSHSI President Br. Gus Boquer who honored Mrs. Leveriza and her canteen’s contributions to the development of DLSHSI, especially to scholars. Mrs. Leveriza provides scholars with free meals everyday. “I am deeply grateful to you for what you’ve done to these boys and girls. Some of them are graduates o the College of Medicine and some are in the top 10. They will never forget you. Thank you for the many years of devotion,” said Br. Gus.

And yes, turon and camote sticks, and the fruit shakes with cheese, are still available.
