The most awaited day for DLSHSI’s Batch 2016 came on April 27 when they were conferred the degrees they have been working for in the past years.

This year, DLSHSI’s Class of 2016 produced two Magna Cum Laude and nine Cum Laude. They are crème among the crop of the 341 new Lasallian health sciences professionals from the College of Nursing (BS Nursing, 53), College of Rehabilitation Sciences (127, BS Physical Therapy; 20, Occupational Therapy); and College of Medical Radiation Technology (BS Radiologic Technology, 141).

Broadcasting giant and DLSHSI Trustee Miguel “Mike” Enriquez, was this year’s commencement speaker and successfully animated all those inside the De La Salle Animo Center for Commencement Exercises 2016 by extolling on what it truly means to be “Lasallian.” A revered Lasallian himself, Mr. Enriquez emphasized that being Lasallian means being a “kapuso,” or to always “have a heart,” not only for their family and loved ones, but also for the less fortunate. He reminded the graduates that Lasallians are naturally competitive for they are “trained to have passion for excellence and to always be the best in their profession.” However, he also said “Being a true Lasallian means being excellent at work not for the sake of being excellent alone,” nor for your loved ones, “but also for your fellow human beings especially those who are less fortunate. Being a true Lasallian means you will always have a heart. You will always have “puso” for others and make a difference in the lives of those placed in your care.”

He also reminded the graduate to never fail their parents, professors, Brothers, fellow Lasallians, countrymen, and La Salle itself. He said that “our banner is high and bright, a shield of green and white. It is the banner of being the best, a banner of faith, and a banner of service.”

Aside from Mr. Enriquez, the graduates also took inspiration from Magna Cum Laude and Class Valedictorian Mark Jay Opalec Pagaduan from the College of Rehabilitation Sciences who spoke on behalf of the graduates and talked about the lessons he learned throughout his years at DLSHSI. Like the commencement speaker, he also reminded his fellow graduates to always bring glory and honor to the institution.
