The Sisters of Mary School (Boys Town) bagged the championship in the DLSHSI 2nd Cavite Search for Science Survivor-Wizards on December 2. The contingent was composed of high school seniors Rolando Combas, Ferdie Valeriano, Renell Magpantay and coached by Ms. Clarissa Estrera. Team Boys Town outdid 10 other groups from different high schools in Cavite. The boys received a cash prize of Php12,000, trophies, medals, certificates, and tokens from the College of Physical Therapy (CPT) Student Council and a full DLSHSI scholarship grant for any DLSHSI course of their choice. Combas also received a certificate, tokens from the CPT Student Council and Php3,000 cash prize for garnering the highest score in the qualifying exams. Completing the top 3 are Zaborah Eunice Bobadilla, Noel Madlangbayan and Kathleen Mae Prado Clinto Gomez of Cavite National Science High School under their coach, Ms. Jaqueline Ureta (1st Runner-up) and Hiel Recare, Ivan Jayson Tawiran and Rommel Sarji Deseo from Governor Ferrer Memorial National High School, coached by Ms. Remegia Mendoza (2nd Runner-up). Each of the members of the group also won full scholarships plus trophies, medals, certificates, and cash prizes of Php8,000 and Php6,000, respectively.
The quiz bee was participated in by 41 public and private high schools in Cavite. After the scores of the three school representatives were averaged in a qualifying exam, the following schools were named the Top 10 finalists: Vel Maris School, Rogationist College, Gov. Ferrer Memorial National High School, The Sisters of Mary School (Boys Town), The Sisters of Mary School (Girls Town), Immaculate Conception Academy Science High School, Elizabeth Seton School-South, Cavite National Science High School, Imus Institute and DasmariƱas National High School- Special Science Class.
Judges for the quiz bee were Ayn Hazel Manuel of the Philippine Science High School, Mr. Jonathan Derez of the Manila Science High School and Ms. Shery Lyn Monterola of the University of the Philippines Integrated School.
"We would like to provide the brightest Caviteños free access to Lasallian Health Sciences education. This is the reason why we sponsor the Science Quiz Bee every year. This is our mission," said DLSHSI's Director for Academic Services Dr. Juanito O. Cabanias.
